On July 21st, as a class we all went to the Aikido event, and afterwards I went to a restaurant that one of the OMU buddies works at for dinner.
the day started off normal grabbing coffee and suffering in the ever increasing morning sun. Taking the subway off down to Nakamozu station, then walking again in the dastardly sun for another 13 months. It never gets easier.
after arriving at campus, we went to class per the norm. After class, we waited around in the I wing for a while before heading off to the opposite side of campus for the gym. and once again, facing off against the all powerful light in the sky.
Arriving at the gym, it was time for Aikido.
I have never in my life felt more pressured to sit on my heels than at this time. I assume that having this way of sitting being ingrained in your culture must make it more comfortable overtime, but by the time we had finished the formalities and the entrance practices, it was time to stand up, but i legitimately stumbled to my feet due to the discomfort of putting my bodyweight through my ankles on the ground. never the less Aikido continued as scheduled. Professor Simon’s skill is assured no doubt, but I do have to mention that he could easily be a lot more careful with the students of the class. Each and every one of the students he called up to volunteer for showing a new technique all talked afterwards about joint pain and how they would’ve rather not been demonstrated on. Rham in particular, had to stop mid-way through the demonstration because he was legitimately hurt, and he looked quite sad afterwards too. The demonstrations themselves were pretty impressive, the joint grabs and throws of Aikido are cool to watch, but pretty rough to be on the receiving end of. Aikido came to an end, and i was quick to take-off so i could go grab some food.
One of the OMU buddies had mentioned to me a while prior that he worked at a restaurant in Kitahanada, and he’d asked for some of the ERAU students to come by and try out his restaurant at some point, to which I was happy to oblige.
After a mix-up with the subway and yet another fight for survival in the virtual Sahara desert that is above ground, we finally arrived at the mall in which his restaurant was contained. Finding it was a bit tricky, but after stumbling into the food court it was easy to see. Potto X Caffe, hidden in the back corner of the mall, had a nice little aesthetic, with lounging chairs and self serve fruit water. After greeting him, Athena and I settled on ordering a fried chicken plate set, and a set of one of their pastas, along with a fresh drip coffee, a fruity drink with sherbet, and for dessert a sweet potato cheesecake, and some soybean ice cream. After recovering in the AC for a while, the food finally came out, and to our great satisfaction, all of the food was fantastic. I’m sure the rest of the menu was great and we’re definitely going back soon.
