Since this day was a school day I woke up around 7:30 and ate one of the in-room sandwiches and headed to the train with my roommate Race. There were about 3 hours of boring math lectures but after that, I got to eat curry at lunch which was amazing. I've learned that even though the food here is extreamly diffrent from what we have in America, it is just as good if not better then American food and actually reflects the culture of Japan really well. After our writing lecture, we got to listen to a lecture about the Japanese language. Some of the stuff we learned was how to say please or excuse me, "Sumimasen", let's go, "ikou", and thank you, "Arigato."
Next was the English cafe, for this we met with a bunch of students trying to learn English and spoke with them to help them practice. I talked with a guy who is writing a paper on using enzymes to protect plants from diseases, he wasn't that good at English so it was a little hard to communicate but he was extremely smart and definitely going places. Another person I talked to was actually from Pakistan and was studying abroad like us. He was doing some reasarch for his major here and it was fun talking to him about his opiions about Japan since he wasn't from here either.
I was then invited to karaoke with some other students and omu buddies, we went to a place close to school and I invited an omu student I made friends with on the train. We had a lot of fun and we sang our throats out even though we are not that good. This experiance was amazing becuase we don't have much like kareoke in America and it let me understand that Japanise people are not shy whatsoever once they feel comfortable.
When we were done we found out that it was pouring outside but that didn't stop us from grabbing sushi at a famous chain called "Sushiro." This place was intersting because the food isn't delivered by a person but a conveyor belt next to the table. This is evedent of the culture in Japan to try to make everything as convient as possible. I learned a lot from this day like how the Japanese people may seem shy and reserved on the outside but they actually are really social and fun people once they get to know you. Today was really fun and I was super glad I could learn more about Japan and its culture as well as deepen my connection with my new Japanese friends.
