Day 20: Foiled plans, but at least we got Yakiniku

In the previous days, me and my friends planned to visit an air force museum called "Airpark JASDF." Unfortunately, we found that today it was closed. So instead I took it as a day of rest for the most part, doing laundry and getting caught up with homework. Things were rather relaxed as I went to a cafe with my friends we haven't been to, right near the hotel (and it was quite good, too!) After that, my friends left to the aquarium, but I went to my room since I already saw the aquarium. As it turns out, it was way too crowded so David came back and built some of his model kits. While he did that, I continued doing laundry, reviewing my assignments, and trying to talk to my friends back home, which I find to be difficult due to the time zones. Regardless, that night Colby suggests we go to Yakiniku. I never had it before so I decide to go along. I remember seeing a yakiniku place in the arcade, but the sign was raw meat (and not sushi) so I wasn't interested. Turns out, the point of yakiniku is the meat is served raw, but you cook it yourself! I haven't really cooked meat before, so luckily I was with my friends so I didn't give myself salmonella. It turned out to be really good! We had chicken, but also wagyu beef which I haven't had before either. Unfortunately this also meant it cost about 13 thousand yen, but it was worth it for the cool experience - and good food!

Blog 24: The tale of castles and princesses

My blog day was the 27th of July. I woke up early that morning and started getting ready at around 7:30. It was the day we were scheduled to go to the famous Himeji castle. So, I met up with the rest of the students at the front lobby on the first floor. There were only a few students there at the time, around 5 or 6, but the rest of them came into the lobby a few moments later. We then went to the train station in Shinsaibashi. Several people got lost on the way, from the trains to the walk over. Then when we made it to the Himiji train station the professors decided that it was time to break for lunch and a few students and I went to an Italian place. At this restaurant I ate a pizza and a bowl of pasta. I enjoyed the pizza however the pasta I ordered ended up being far too spicy for my liking. After that I got a Mint Chocolate ice cream cone from the local Baskin Robbins. After that a small group of students and I headed out to the castle. After a while of walking in the bakin...

Day 16 Recap: Exploring Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens

Today I woke up and I went to McDonald’s with my lovely roommate Lauren for breakfast. I wanted to start my day right so I ordered the Mega McMuffin. After eating breakfast the class set off to Kobe. We began our day at Riken where we were educated about the Fugaku, and then we got lunch at the station. I love how the stations here are like fancy malls, its something I really appreciate about Japan, how you can just lollygag around while waiting for your train or waiting to meet up with friends. I spent my free time washing my hands with various fancy soaps at a fragrance store.  Personally, the highlight of my day was visiting Nunobiki Herb garden. I really love gardens and getting to visit one of Japan's largest Herb Gardens was really exciting for me. Our journey began with the Nunobiki Ropeway that gave a panoramic view of Kobe city, the ocean, and the surrounding lush greenery. The ropeway ride in itself was one of my favorite moments of the trip.  Once we got off we were...
