Day 15 Recap: Trading Cards and a Choclate Puppy

My day began later than normal due to being extremely tired from a week of fun, albeit tiring week in Japan. Being a huge fan of card games, particularly the Japanese card game, Yugioh, I decided that the first part of today would be going to Namba, Osaka, a place filled to the brim with different card shops. I searched around at least 10 different card shops looking for stuff to buy, and buy I did. In hindsight, I probably spent way too much money on fancy pieces of cardboard, but it was fun, nonetheless. It was very awesome to witness so many people at these different shops, filled with many people playing the games themselves, something that is extremely rare in the US. For lunch, we grabbed some fried chicken from a street vender, which was both reasonably priced and delicious.

Later that day, I met up with a Japanese friend I had met on the trip last year and we went to a fancy sushi restaurant. The sushi was like nothing I had ever tasted in my life. Even inexpensive sushi in Japan is delicious, but this was on a whole new level. I ordered some salmon by myself, but because I was indecisive over what else to have, I asked my Japanese friend, Shunsuke to order some sushi for me. This turned out to be a good call, because he chose some amazing sushi for me to try. In the end, I paid about 2000 yen for a good-sized meal of gourmet sushi, which I believe to be a good deal.

Afterword, we met up with a few other friends and headed to a local dessert shop in Tennoji and tried a few of the deserts there. Of note was a chocolate dog, which although felt morally questionable to consume, was delicious nonetheless. Overall, this was a fun day. Getting to fully enjoy a hobby of mine, alongside seeing some friends I had met last year during this trip was nice.

Blog 24: The tale of castles and princesses

My blog day was the 27th of July. I woke up early that morning and started getting ready at around 7:30. It was the day we were scheduled to go to the famous Himeji castle. So, I met up with the rest of the students at the front lobby on the first floor. There were only a few students there at the time, around 5 or 6, but the rest of them came into the lobby a few moments later. We then went to the train station in Shinsaibashi. Several people got lost on the way, from the trains to the walk over. Then when we made it to the Himiji train station the professors decided that it was time to break for lunch and a few students and I went to an Italian place. At this restaurant I ate a pizza and a bowl of pasta. I enjoyed the pizza however the pasta I ordered ended up being far too spicy for my liking. After that I got a Mint Chocolate ice cream cone from the local Baskin Robbins. After that a small group of students and I headed out to the castle. After a while of walking in the bakin...

Day 16 Recap: Exploring Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens

Today I woke up and I went to McDonald’s with my lovely roommate Lauren for breakfast. I wanted to start my day right so I ordered the Mega McMuffin. After eating breakfast the class set off to Kobe. We began our day at Riken where we were educated about the Fugaku, and then we got lunch at the station. I love how the stations here are like fancy malls, its something I really appreciate about Japan, how you can just lollygag around while waiting for your train or waiting to meet up with friends. I spent my free time washing my hands with various fancy soaps at a fragrance store.  Personally, the highlight of my day was visiting Nunobiki Herb garden. I really love gardens and getting to visit one of Japan's largest Herb Gardens was really exciting for me. Our journey began with the Nunobiki Ropeway that gave a panoramic view of Kobe city, the ocean, and the surrounding lush greenery. The ropeway ride in itself was one of my favorite moments of the trip.  Once we got off we were...
