Day 16 Recap: Exploring Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens

Today I woke up and I went to McDonald’s with my lovely roommate Lauren for breakfast. I wanted to start my day right so I ordered the Mega McMuffin. After eating breakfast the class set off to Kobe. We began our day at Riken where we were educated about the Fugaku, and then we got lunch at the station. I love how the stations here are like fancy malls, its something I really appreciate about Japan, how you can just lollygag around while waiting for your train or waiting to meet up with friends. I spent my free time washing my hands with various fancy soaps at a fragrance store.

Personally, the highlight of my day was visiting Nunobiki Herb garden. I really love gardens and getting to visit one of Japan's largest Herb Gardens was really exciting for me. Our journey began with the Nunobiki Ropeway that gave a panoramic view of Kobe city, the ocean, and the surrounding lush greenery. The ropeway ride in itself was one of my favorite moments of the trip.

Once we got off we were greeted by the Welcome Garden; a cute little blooming garden surrounded by castle gates and a rest house with an ancient German design. Here they had little gift shops and a cafe where you can buy ice cream, drinks, and food to eat. I ended up purchasing a honeycomb ice cream which had an actual honeycomb in it.

After catching my breath at the Welcome Garden I made my descent down to the various gardens. Upon reaching the herb gardens I was not only greeted with beautiful sight but also wonderful aromatic scents of various herbs and flowers. My favorite moment was visiting the Greenhouse garden where I could admire the intricate designs of the garden beds along with various fountains and sculptures. Other lovely highlights of the Garden were the Hammocks where you could just sunbathe and rest, and the Waterfall Patio where you could enjoy some shade. In the same building connected to the greenhouse garden you can find a lovely cafe with views similar to the ropeway. I ordered tea and a peach cake to enjoy overlooking Kobe and the gardens. Here is a picture of my cake, it was pretty but difficult to eat.

I found this experience to be one of my favorite places to visit while in Japan to appreciate culture and have a calming experience. The day had a cheerful tone and I’m glad I got to try many yummy foods.

Blog 24: The tale of castles and princesses

My blog day was the 27th of July. I woke up early that morning and started getting ready at around 7:30. It was the day we were scheduled to go to the famous Himeji castle. So, I met up with the rest of the students at the front lobby on the first floor. There were only a few students there at the time, around 5 or 6, but the rest of them came into the lobby a few moments later. We then went to the train station in Shinsaibashi. Several people got lost on the way, from the trains to the walk over. Then when we made it to the Himiji train station the professors decided that it was time to break for lunch and a few students and I went to an Italian place. At this restaurant I ate a pizza and a bowl of pasta. I enjoyed the pizza however the pasta I ordered ended up being far too spicy for my liking. After that I got a Mint Chocolate ice cream cone from the local Baskin Robbins. After that a small group of students and I headed out to the castle. After a while of walking in the bakin...
